Fahim Sadi Sings

Aida Mustafa - Pantun Jenaka

Philips - 473 873 PE - Indonesia

A1 - Pantun Jenaka
A2 - Menanti
B1 - Telah Bersemi
B2 - Bungaku

Mesayu Aida Mustafa is accompanied by The Steps on this late-60s/early-70s EP, delivering some awesome fuzz-guitar blasts on "Pantun Jenaka". As many other Indonesian artists (Ernie Djohan, Ervinna, Irni Jusnita etc..) Aida also released records in Singapore and Malaysia during the 1960s-70s.

More Aida Mustafa can be found on Madrotter!

Jeti dengan The Alfan

Olympic - T.R.C. 1074
Singapore

A1 - Mesra Di-Kenangan
A2 - Churiga-Churiga
B1 - Bisekan Kalbu
B2 - Sunyi Menanti

What? You say you've never heard about Jeti before?? Then it's about time you got acquainted!

Not sure were Jeti hails from, the lyrics seem to be in Malay and the EP was released in Singapore which was a veritable melting pot of the South-East Asian music scene of the 1960s-70s.  Backing band "The Alfan" recorded with many other artists too and may have had a few releases on their own if I recall correctly. They sound absolutely fantastic here, great organ, violin and percussion sounds. Malay EPs of this kind can be pretty much a hit & miss affair, especially when you blindly buy records just cause the cover art looks great, once in a while a real gem turns up and this is one of them. As you can see on the cover the music is presented in glorious StereoMono!

Enjoy!

Suphaphon Thiapthiam / Soonthorn Sujaridchan -

 Top Teen Talent - T-031
Thailand - 1977

Soundtrack from the 1977 comedy film "rak ootalood," think it means something like "Love in Haste" but don't quote me on that :-)

In addition to his solo career (Soonthorn Sujaridchan) was the singer of รอยัล สไปรท์ส (Royal Sprites). Both of his songs from the B-side of this EP was also included on the "Maft Sai : Thai Funk ZudRangMa Vol.2" compilation.

I know nothing at all about Suphaphon Thiapthiam who's singing the ballad on the first track. And neither am I sure who's performing the instrumental song, all I know is that it's composed by (Prajeena Sohngfao), a member of (The Impossibles) who will be featured later here on StereoMono.

On the Thai wikipedia page for the movie there's several songs from the soundtrack uploaded as OGG files

    Johnny Yuma Thai EP

    Coliseum Records
    Thailand - ca.1967

B1 - The Wilder Brothers - Johnny Yuma
B2 - The Wilder Brothers -That Silent Man

Johnny Yuma was a 1967 Italian western film with music composed by Nora Orlandia. The 2 tracks here was performed by The Wilder Brothers, which was a pseudonym used by John Ireson & Wayn Parham for many Spaghetti Western films.  The original record was released as a 2 track single on RCA Victor. This Thai edition feature an extra track by Misak Nakarat singing the title song  backed by ขบวน มุกดา (Khabuan Mukda)'s "The Son of P.M." and Thai lyrics provided by Mr. P.M. himself: พยงค์ มุกดา (Phayong Mukda).

Misak Nakharat was a singer and actor and reputedly the first practitioner of rock'n'roll music in Thailand. You can find a whole Misak album and a lot more information than I'd be able to provide on the great monrakplengthai blog:

    taek dang phlo

be sure to also check the later Khabuan Mukda instrumental electone album on the same blog:

Many thanks to Peter at monrakplengthai for all his help with transcriptions of my Thai records!!
